While at university I used to spend a lot of time playing poker with friends, and since then I’ve gotten really into online poker. I used to think that it was the next best thing, but for me playing poker online can be even better for a whole lot of reasons.
The first (and most important) reason is the massive prizes that are not too difficult to get your hands on. As a student nobody has all that much cash, and though it was a great way to spend a night with some friends, even if I won I’d only come away with a few pounds.
Another reason is the wide variety of games online. There’s a lot of sites to play on – PokerStars Games is a definite favourite because of the number of people that play there, as well as the really nice software that makes playing there the best experience on the internet – and there are a lot of different games, so you don’t end up having to resort to the same old games after a few beers because nobody really knows how to play anything else.
Texas Hold ‘Em
Texas Hold ‘Em is definitely still my favourite game, and the one I find myself going to the most often, partially because it’s the most popular and there are always some people to take some money from.
Stud and Omaha Poker are also pretty big online – Omaha is pretty similar to Texas Hold ‘Em, though each player receives four hole cards and has to use two of them in their hand. This works really well on the internet in my experience, and from time to time can be even more fun than Hold ‘Em.
Benefits of Online Poker
One of the main benefits I find with online poker is that you can meet such a large variety of people, there are a lot of people that play poker online whenever you log on day or night you will more than likely be able to find a game, no matter is you are a seasoned veteran or a brand new player.
Another of the benefits of online poker is quite an obvious one, the large amounts of money that you can win by playing there is a lot of it. If you play enough and are of course good enough you could probably make a career out of playing poker online.
