Guest post: Star of CCTV

It’s a strange feeling being watched by CCTV cameras at work – it can make you feel a little uneasy when you’re trying to get on with things, and more awkward still if you’re trying not to…obviously though it’s important to make sure someone is keeping an eye on such a large amount of expensive equipment…monitors, laptops and computers – especially when nobody is in the office.

I’ve even looked into getting some kinds of CCTV systems installed at home. Having a record of exactly what’s happening to my stuff while I’m out makes me feel a lot more comfortable. Funny how that switches around when you own the kit…
I found it’s pretty easy to get carried away when you’re looking at gadgets like these though, and I live by the old adage “you get what you pay for” (that’s why I’ve got a Mac!). It’s a tough ideal to snap out of, but at some point I’m going to have to realise that I don’t need to fork out £2,000 to get a camera watching over my house, and there have been a lot of great advances when it comes to cameras in things like phones – new technology gets used in security too.
I’ve been looking at ADT, who have a great range online. They made the burglar alarm that protects my home at the minute, and I’ve had no problems at all with that. Scraping the cash together is proving to be a bit tricky though, but I think that it’s pretty obviously going to be worth it in the long run. I know I can leave my laptop at work without worrying that it won’t be there when I get back, and knowing that the stuff I have to pay to replace is safe too would be a nice feeling indeed.
