It’s a sad day for many Sparrow for Mac users as they learn that Google has brought the Sparrow email client and its team this includes the OSX and iOS version. The sparrow email client was an independent email client for the mac that was the sweet heart of the Apple community because this will start up was considered one of the best email clients for the Apple platform, our own Josh Stevens loved the sparrow application and isn’t too please that it has been brought by Google.
However I’m sure the reported $25 million it sold for wasn’t too easy for the sparrow team to pass up on. In all fairness if Google does play this right and integrates it to their gmail app I’m pretty sure they will have one killer email client. One of the majors issues with sparrow on mobile was the fact it didn’t have push, now with the resources at Google behind it I’m sure they could do it on their end.
This is what the sparrow owner Dom Leca had to state on a statement on the sparrow site:
We’re excited to announce that Sparrow has been acquired by Google!
We care a lot about how people communicate, and we did our best to provide you with the most intuitive and pleasurable mailing experience.
We care a lot about how people communicate, and we did our best to provide you with the most intuitive and pleasurable mailing experience.
Now we’re joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision — one that we think we can better achieve with Google.
We’d like to extend a special thanks to all of our users who have supported us, advised us, given us priceless feedback and allowed us to build a better mail application. While we’ll be working on new things at Google, we will continue to make Sparrow available and provide support for our users.
We had an amazing ride and can’t thank you enough.
Full speed ahead!
