Thanks to the incredible sales that the iPhone has seen over the last couple of years Apple is now the third largest supplier of mobile phones world wide. Apple has an incredible 8.8% of the market share with only one smartphone in the market just imagine if they had a feature phone as well, they wont own the whole industry. The study which was conducted IDC looked at the amount of phones shipped in Q1 of 2012 and only Samsung and Nokia have a larger market share than Apple, as can be seen on the table below. This is made even more incredible because both these companies have such a wide range of handsets available where Apple can compete with only one handset on the market.
As can be seen in the table Apple has by far the largest growth over any other company, with a massive year on year growth of 88%, they really appear to have the momentum in the industry. With the iPhone 5 out at the end of this year this momentum looks likely to continue.
