It has recently been making the round in all the major technology news sites such as Gigaom, Tech Crunch and Venture beat about the antics that have been going on between Egnyte and Box, which are two pretty big online file sharing and storage companies. The controversy started when the Engyte brought out it’s Box Buster Buyout program which is a marketing stunt designed to enlighten customers about the extra features you can get from Egnyte over the Box service. The program lets users who want to switch over from Box switch and they get the first year of their service for free as a reward for switching which is a pretty good deal.
Venture beat has described Egnyte as a company that has superior technology but because they are not based in Silicon Valley like Box who are reportedly the;
Silicon Valley darling Box
This is being said because Egnyte only managed to attract a $16 million in venture capital funding where Box manage to secure ten times that mainly because they are regarded higher in Silicon Valley. This is a pretty bold stunt as you don’t usually see competitors attack each other in each a public and apparent way, with Egnyte purposefully trying to highlight the weaknesses of Box and where their feature lack or don’t quite compare.
Both customers are pretty new with Egnyte and Box being made in 2007 and 2005 respectively they are both making waves in the industry as massive business to business online storage players, Egnyte don’t even offer a personal service it is purely for business use.
