It has been reported by the BBC this morning that Apple has been forced into a corner
down under. In Australian the consumer electronics giant is refunding customers who felt
miss lead my claims that the new iPad was capable of 4G data speeds when there is no
4G network in Australia.
The Australia AAC was the group that lead the case against Apple stating that it advertised
the device was capable of 4G in the country when that wasn’t the case. However Apple
stated that
They never claimed the 4G in the device would work in Australia and that the new iPad
works on what is globally accepted as the 4G networking standard.
The Australia court thought that there was some substance to this claim so it was going
to go into a full trail after Easter. However Apple more than likely not wanting the hassle
decided to settle outside of court and refund any Australia customer that wanted it for their
iPad, although I’m guessing that not that many people took Apple up on that offer.
