The BBC has done an investigation into Google to find out just where some of the money is coming from, Adrian Goldberg did this research in some of the recent PPC (pay per click) ads that have been accepted by Google and his finding were quite remarkable.
The findings showed that Google’s adwords the program where you can pay for the sponsored ads at the top of a Google search is been used by some less than legal parties including people who are selling such items as fake Olympics tickets, fake ID’s and on some cases even several types of narcotics. Below you can see what this type of ad looks like, these are not the offending ads as Google has already taken these down by the request of the Police as selling fake Olympic tickets is against the law in the UK.
While Google did take these ads off, Google are keeping the money they made from the ads. This does throw into doubt the holier than thou approach that Google always takes. If they are capable of doing things like this, its easy to wonder what sort of other antics they are up to since they possess a great deal of information about each an everyone of us.
